Every great adventure starts long before we step into the wild.
Before the boots hit the ground, before the cameras roll, and before we meet the incredible animals we’re searching for—there’s planning. Lots of it.
For our Zoobitat Expedition to Madagascar, the planning stage was just as exciting as the journey itself.
Madagascar is one of the most unique places on Earth. This island nation, located off the southeast coast of Africa, is home to plants and animals that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. In fact, over 90% of its wildlife is endemic—meaning it exists only in Madagascar.
And at the heart of this incredible biodiversity are lemurs.
Lemurs are primates, just like us—but they’ve evolved in their own special ways after millions of years of isolation on the island. Some are tiny enough to fit in your hand, while others leap through the treetops with powerful legs and long tails for balance.
But here’s where our expedition becomes even more exciting…
Scientists believe there may still be undiscovered lemur species living deep within Madagascar’s forests.
That’s where the planning comes in.
Before heading out, we worked with maps, satellite images, and local experts to identify the best places to explore—remote rainforests, hidden trails, and protected habitats where lemurs might still be living undetected. We studied weather patterns, packed specialized gear, and made sure we were ready to explore responsibly, without disturbing the fragile ecosystems we hoped to learn from.
Because exploration isn’t just about discovery—it’s about respect.
Every step we take in the wild is guided by a simple goal: to learn, protect, and share the stories of these amazing animals.
And this is just the beginning.
In our next expedition entry, we’ll step into the forests of Madagascar and begin our search for one of the island’s most fascinating creatures…
Stay curious, ZoobiRangers.
